Sustainable Development

Our activity is conducted in a people-orientated manner that takes account, for us and for the generations to come, of the valuable resources and services yielded by nature and society.
It incorporates a variety of aspects :

THE ENVIRONMENT

Saving water resources

For optimal product quality, cleaning must take place on a regular basis. But to limit required water consumption, we have developed simple initiatives such as training our employees in water saving, using stop nozzles for cleaning pipes or resorting to more technical solutions such as water recirculation.
These initiatives have cut our water consumption by 26% between 2001 and 2010 ; in the same time we have improved our ratio of taking water for finished (more than 170% of increase) product

Reducing waste at the source

Nowadays, the impact of waste from the design of our products through to their purchase by consumers is a key concern, and as a result, we design products that don’t waste raw materials and that generate as little waste as possible.
Accordingly, we have various initiatives under way: involving our suppliers in our waste-conscious approach, optimising our palletised storage and reducing packaging and over-packaging.
Our supplies are chosen on the basis of being able to recycle waste.
In 2005, we limited our environmental impact by cutting our volume of waste by 15% and by sorting 85% of it.
Between 2007 and 2010 we have reduced our weight of wastes for 1000l finished product

Carbon Report

In 2005, we drew up our carbon report in partnership with the Centre Technique de la Conservation des Produits Agricoles (Technical Center for the Conservation of Agricultural Products) and the French Environmental and Energy Management Agency.
The carbon report method enabled us to estimate every year the level of greenhouse gas emissions produced by our activity, from cultivating the fruit to delivering the finished products.

Results:
Antartic emit ,for 2009, 31800 tons of carbon equivalent .
This value is situated in the low range of the values met usually in the food-processing industry (from 30 000 to 50 000 eC / year).

In the concern to join an approach of sustainable development, we created an Indication Carbon assessment. This indication allows us to measure our efficiency since the year 2005. This indicator it in improvement since then

Water treatment

For treating wastewater from the factory, we have a wastewater treatment plant covering an area of 6,500m², capable of treating the equivalent amount of wastewater as produced by a town of 70,000 inhabitants.
This plant meets a two-fold requirement:
– intensive purification for compliance with disposal standards,
– removal of any accidental pollution risk caused by machinery malfunction.

SOCIAL INTERACTION

Men and women are the keys to Antartic’s success and our human resource management plays a key role in our performance and sustainable development. Our social policy is based on Performance Management, a socially responsible progress initiative and on a respect for individual rights and duties. Within the company, our main actions in this regard involve skills development through an ambitious training policy, active participation in professional integration, recognition, awareness of our employees of their responsiblities and ongoing improvement of occupational health and safety.

REACHING OUT BEYOND THE COMPANY

Health education

Nutritional education requires long-term action. As a member of the Association Nationale des Industries Agroalimentaires (French Association of Food-Processing Industries), we have an important part to play in public health. We are also partners of the Fondation Alimentation et Vitalité (Food and Vitality Foundation).

Letterbox

ANTARTIC is based in SAINT MARTIN D'ABBAT, the LETTERBOX VILLAGE.
At the initiative of the Association Saint Martin d'ABBAT Demain, all residents may take part in developing the village’s cultural identity by giving their letterboxes a personal touch.
We wanted to give our contribution to this identity, and have therefore been partners from the outset.

We are a partner of the association and bottle a spring water with a personalized label: the village of Mailboxes.

On this label " between the Loire and the forest of Orléans " are represented both artificial present Boxes in the entrance of the factory; they were realized by employees of Antartic. We can discover it also the stamp published by post in 2010.

These bottles of 50 cl are offered to the local associations
